I MIGHT be keloid prone. Should I go ahead and get a tattoo?

I'm considering getting a tattoo. However, a couple of years ago I got my ear pierced and didn't take care of it properly. It got infected and then developed a small keloid. I'm concerned about getting a tattoo if I'm predisposed to keloids. The thing is, that was my first and only keloid, and I'm a white male (and I've read keloids with this demo is rare) and I've had acne on my back leaving plenty of scars which have never developed keloids. Am I really predisposed to developing keloids and am I risking a keloid by getting a tattoo?

I think you should consult a dermatologist and then a tattoo artist.
Reply:No.
Reply:Keloid scars only usually develop on areas where the damage is quiet deep, as a tattoo is mostly surface and not that deep i doubt that it would cause any scarring I have a large keloid scar on my stomach and chest but have never had any problems with the tattoos that i have had before and after i got the scar.
Reply:the scar you are describing from the piercing is likely not a keloid but just a buildup of scar tissue due to the infection and aggravation that the piercing caused. a true keloid is large and very noticeable and most people with one have many.

here are some pictures of keloid scars

Reply:You're not going to get a keloid from a tattoo. Keloids tend to be a result of puncture wounds. Go ahead and get your tattoo. Just take better care of it than you did your piercing, and you should be fine.
