Keloid? (nose piercing only please)?

What exactly is it like to have a Keloid?

I have a bump on my nose i'm just not sure if its a Keloid or not..

Keloid? (nose piercing only please)?
Keloids are a specific kind of fibrous scar tissue – thick and irregular - caused by excessive tissue growth at the site of an incision or wound. — most people make the mistake of assuming that all piercing-related scarring is keloiding, whereas hypertrophic scarring which is formed after an injury heals showing a red, hard, raised bump under the skin, is much more common and easier to treat. As for the use of the word "keloid," it is both a noun, and a verb. The verb, "to keloid" means to create these raised scars. Keloiding is, in part, related to the amount of melanin in your skin; the darker your skin, the better you generally keloid. The easiest to treat are earlobe keloids which sometimes appear after piercing and often simple excision is adequate. There are potential complications that may result in cosmetic deformity following nasal piercing which I do not consider appropriate to include here. Without a visual examination it is difficult to nominate the scar that you state you have.

I add a link that discusses keloid and hypertrophic scars

Reply:A keloid is a type of scar which results in an overgrowth of tissue at the site of a healed skin injury. If you had your nose pierced, it is more likely that it hypertrophic scarring. This is heavy scarring that appears around a piercing or other wound.

Usually, the jewelry is inappropriate - either too heavy or has a poor shape and creates stress. Change the jewelry and the scar might go away in few days.
Reply:Chances are it's not a keloid. They're pretty rare. Hypertrophic scarring is much more common, and easier to deal with. It's formed by trauma and irritation to the piercing. Make sure you're following proper aftercare (sea salt soaks ONLY) and that you have good quality jewelry in. The scar tissue will go away with time and proper care.

Keloids can only be dealt with through steriod injections or surgical removal. They are most common in people with darker skin, although some people with lighter skin are genetically pre-disposed to them. Keloids will continue to grow, even if the origional irritant is removed.

Reply:hey I'm having the same problem i did my nose piercing about 6 years ago myself and i always have problems with it. on the inside of the nose especially if i try to change the jewelry, I'm using sea salt to try to get it down again but it seems like it just gets irritated now and then, but i just heard about this tea tree oil if i put that on 3 times a day that's supposed to take it away I'm not sure where to get it though but i definitely want to try it so i done think its a keloid probably the other thing or irritated
