Keloid scars???

I am 31 and have had a few large bumps since I was about 16. They are only on my upper chest and on the back of my shoulders.( A few strays here %26amp; there on my back) My family Dr. called them "keloid " scars or something like that. I have been told that my skin type is very susceptible to this, and that it is hereditary. My biological father had them too, I am told. Any advice on removing/fading them? How about making sure my daughters don't suffer the same thing?

Keloid scars???
You can go to a doctor, or dermatologist, and get cortisone injection (into the scar), and it will help reduce the swelling or puffyness and it also helps to tone down the pigmentation. I don't think you can make them completely disappear, but they certainly won't be as noticable after the shot.

As far as passing it on to your daughter, I dunno, my son does have it, but my daughter doesn't! It goes to show us that we can't control nature. lol!

Reply:Try using the product called Mederma.
Reply:Nothing you can do, that's just how your skin heals. My sister has the same problem.
Reply:You can't make sure you daughters don't get it. Many blacks and some Europeans from specific areas are more likely to get keloid scars. Try using a lubricant like cocoa butter or mineral oil to provide scar massage to them. Use your thumb and press down to apply pressure in a circular motion along the length of the scar. This will help re-align the collagen fibers to make a flatter scar. Some creams are available to fade them a bit if they're dark.
Reply:Not much you can do to prevent them, and most doctors are hesitant to try to remove them because they are likely to recur.

See a dermatologist/plastic surgeon for the best advice for your specific case.
