What is a keloid?

i just got my cartilage pierced and i have heard that people have problems with keloids. i do not know what a keloid is and i am scared of getting one. what causes them? how can i avoid getting one?

They are often caused by piercings and can be hereditary. Oh yeah and they also occur more in people of color.

My mother has keloids and they are very visible and sometimes painful.


I've heard it runs in families so maybe see if anyone in your family has a problem with keloid scars.
