Nose ring infected, keloid? HELP!?

I had my bf pierce my nose with one of those disposable ear piercing guns. Now the piercing has this little red bump on it and the ring goes through it. Is it infected? I read on other questions that it might be a keloid formed from the piercing *I think it's from cheap jewelry*. Should I take it out? or is there a way I can get a better quality ring and keep it clean so the bump goes away?





Oh and now sometimes when i take it out, if I push from the other side of my nose on the inside it almost looks like this skin comes out and there's some blood, I took a little of it out and it didn't hurt, what is that? It's almost like skin or whatever is inside the bump or deeper maybe?

hmm, I'm not an expert but I would say to make sure the earring is real silver and not the fake kind because that will rust and cause irration, clean it several times with the sanitation spray (forget the name right now)...you could always go to a tattoo parlor or piercing place and ask what to do

Reply:That's so funny. You poke a hole in your nose and stick a rivet in it to make yourself more, uh, attractive. Good idea. I better rush out and get some fish hooks for my face. Maybe I could remove the spirol wire from a notebook and weave it all around my face. Then it gets all infected, it looks like the skin comes out, there's blood when you pick at it, how charming. If it was me, I'd just get a custom fitted bag for my head instead, a lot less fussing around.





Take the thing out and leave it out, you'll look a lot better.

For starters, using a piercing gun was not wise. They are not meant for any piercing, that's right...they are horrible for ALL piercing. You should have gone to a professional to have the piercing done





Most likely, what you are going to have to do is either take out the piercing or see a professional piercer to have them give you appropriate jewelry and aftercare instructions.





I don't think what you have is a keloid and to be honest, poor quality jewelry won't cause keloids, it just causes pain and discoloring of the skin and moderate bleeding depending on how your body reacts. I think what you have is probably hypertrophic scarring caused from trauma from the poor materials you used to pierce the area.

The bump is also probably from general irritation, but most likely is going to be hypertrophic scarring and not a keloid.





Usually infections are accompanied with pain, swelling, redness, heated area, bleeding, green pus and even brown/blackening of the skin. So depending on your symptoms, you should be able to determine if its just irritated or infected.





I have a feeling that switching to a correct material, size and type of jewelry will help greatly. So will cleaning the piercing regularly with mild soap and water and using sea salt soaks.





Go to a professional piercer, its easier to fix the problem with they can see the area and not have to guess. I'm very sorry to hear about your troubles, but hopefully you've learned a lesson. Good luck (and sorry if this post seems b*tchy, its not meant to.)
Reply:Keloid is something mother nature give us during healing. Not everyone gets it though. It is definitely not from cheap jewelry! It wouldn't go away on it's own. You need a plastic surgeon to remove it. If you decided not to do anything to it, it'll flatten a bit as you aged. Keloid is caused by hormone.
