I have a keloid i think!?

i think i have a keloid in my cartlidge and since i got it done with a gun, which i heard was a baaad idea plus i did it at a kiosk at the mall dang it both bad ideas. i want to let it close and heal completely and then later on think about getting another one done at a real piercing parlor. how can i find a real piercing parlor? and how should i go about most effectively closing the hole and not letting it scar and trying to minimize the keloid.

this is very important to me!

I have a keloid i think!?
A Keloid is a scar that development around an injury or site or scar area, and not an " injury ", due to piercing. They may itch, cause pain, and be tender to the touch.

If you have recently had a belly button ring piercing, it could be the cause.

If not, there is a genetic component, mostly in African and Asian origins.

Some of the treatments are :

Injections of cortisone, once a month.

Compression ie: ace bandages or Lycra bandages worn 12-24 hours a day.

Or cryosurgery ( freezing )

But whatever you decide to do, do not have the piercing done in the same place, as they have a tendency to come back anyway.
Reply:Hi. Perhaps you are prone to keloid scarring. Have your health care provider look at your ear for any signs of infection, and determine the severity of the keloid scarring. As you are aware, this is not reversible. Discuss options with your doctor. Because of this, you may not want to attempt another piercing of this magnitude. However, there are clip on ear cartilidge piercings that are still attractive. Be careful, and choosy if you do however decide to attempt another piercing. Ask your friends in your local area who may have had a successful cart. piercing, or google it, and look for ratings of establishments in your area. Be safe.
Reply:keloids are excess scar tissue in the skin, not the cartilage. You should remove the piercing, see a dermatologist or ENT for steroid injections, and NEVER pierce your ears again. That is, of course, if you truly have a keloid.

If you have an infection or a hypertrophic scar (similar but different enough from keloid), you may be able to get another piercing at a later date.

No matter what, if you want to try and stop this thing from getting bigger and even decrease the size of it, you should see ENT/Derm and get steroid injections.
