What is the treatment for keloid? I am really worried. Please help.?

I have a keloid in the back side of my ear, which developed after i got it pierced few years back.. It has grown over a period of time and is now considerably visible. Please help with any information regarding its treatment. I have already taken injections (kenacort), which hasn't helped. The keloid is growing and i am worried now. Please help me get rid of this.

What is the treatment for keloid? I am really worried. Please help.?
The treatment modalities available are:

Corticosteroid injection, repeated every few weeks

Cryotherapy which involves freezing the keloid with liquid nitrogen

Pressure dressings

Silicone gel dressings

Self-adhesive polyurethane scar reduction patches

Pulsed dye laser. This is a costly procedure

Surgical excision (but may result in a second keloid even larger than the original one)

Laser surgery to cut the keloid

Radiotherapy to remove the keloid

Persons who tend to develop keloids should avoid cosmetic procedures to their skin. If surgery is necessary, an injection of cortisone can be made into the skin first. This may lower the risk of developing a keloid.

Keloids may be cosmetically embarrassing. However, they cause no long-term health problems. Keloids are not contagious and pose no risk to others.
Reply:the only cure for keloid scarring is surgery. the cortisone injection is supposed to break up the scar tissue, but, if that hasnt worked, you will need to see a plastic surgeon.

i have keloid scarring but my doctor has told me that it will settle down in about 8 months as it doesnt seem to be forming any more, but if yours is still growing i would recommend surgery
Reply:Keloids are smooth overgrowths of fibroblastic tissue that arise in an area of injury (eg, surgical scars, truncal acne) or, occasionally, spontaneously.

It must be noted that there is no treatment for keloids that is considered to be 100% effective.

There are 3 treatment options for keloid scars:

surgical removal

non-surgical interventions

combination treatments.

I will briefly discuss each one.

Surgical treatment of keloid scars

This is the most effective and the least complex of the available forms of treatment, the recurrence rate however is thought to be about 50%.

Lasers have been tried as an alternative to knife surgery but so far the outcomes are no better.

Non surgical treatments for keloid scars

Interferon therapy (drugs acting on the immune system), has been reported as effective in reducing keloid scarring however it does have significant side effects. Examples are toxicity, flu like symptoms, depression, nausea and vomiting. Prolonged compression of scar tissue can theoretically soften and break up keloid scars, however the practicality of this option depends on the location of the keloid. Other non-surgical interventions that are currently being tried with varying results include antihistamines, vitamins, nitrogen mustard, Verapamil, retinoic acids.

Combined treatments for keloid scarring

One option involves surgical removal of scar tissue in combination with a couple of steroid injections -one at the time of the surgery and the second injection about 3 to 4 weeks later. However, this type of treatment is variously reported as having between a 50% to 70% rate of recurrence.

Another option combines surgery with external type radiotherapy. Radiation has the effect of interfering with skin growth (fibroblasts) and collagen production. Research varies on which type of combination therapy is the more effective. Both radiotherapy and steroid drugs have side effects so you need to discuss with your doctor the most effective. It may be worth getting a second opinion before proceeding with either treatment.
Reply:hi dont be sad!

you are not alone.. we are too many..

im keloid former too.i understand what you feel.. its not really easy..

go to site for forum..http://www.keloid-scars.com/index.php

i always pray that there will be a perfect treatment for that.. i found a new one site..CryoShape is the new treatment..

i think it a good one..

A revolutionary breakthrough in the treatment of Keloids and Hypertrophic Scars http://www.etgargroup.com/

The treatment is accompanied by local anesthesia and hence is painless, including after the treatment. No sutures are involved!

The surgical session lasts from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on scar volume.

The CryoShape induces necrosis of the inner scar tissue but spares the surrounding skin. By using the CryoShape the scar surface is minimally injured while only the deep scar tissue is destroyed. As a result the original skin pigmentation is usually completely preserved.

God bless u.. see there in forum!
