What is a remedy for keloid ?

My 5year son got burnt due to boiling water on his right side neck, shoulder and chest. After initial successful treatment burn got cured but on all scars have turned to Keloids in the forms of lumps which is more visible and looking bad. We have his pictures to show. Now it will be two years on Feb 6. We need to know if any treatment available for Keloids.

What is a remedy for keloid ?
While not dangerous, keloid scars may itch, cause pain or be tender to the touch. There are several treatments that will help:

Natural treatments (in case of piercings)-- Take a warm rag and hold it up against the keloid for about 5 minutes. This can also be done with a warm tea bag. Tea tree oil is also effective but is not recommended as it can allow bacteria to stick to it.

Dressings — Moistened wound coverings made of silicone gel (such as Dermatix) or silastic have been shown in studies to reduce keloid prominence over time. This treatment is safe and painless.

Compression — Compression bandages applied to the site over several months, may lead to a reduction in the size of the keloid. This is the best treatment for preventing new scars.

Steroid injections — Steroid injections are best used as the scar begins to thicken or if the person is a known keloid former. A series of injections with triamcinolone acetonide or another corticosteroid may reduce keloid size and irritation. However, injections are often uncomfortable. The treatment area can become very painful as the anesthetic wears off.

Cryosurgery — Cryosurgery is an excellent treatment for keloids which are small and occur on lightly pigmented skin. It is often combined with monthly cortisone injections. The use of cryotherapy is limited since it causes skin blanching. It freezes the skin and causes sludging of the circulation beneath, effectively creating an area of localized frostbite.

Laser therapy — This is an alternative to conventional surgery for keloid removal. Lasers produce a superficial peel but often do not reduce the bulk of the keloid. The use of dye-tuned lasers has not shown better results than that of cold lasers.

And finally:

5FU - Combination of steriods and anticancer drugs. Specialist plastic surgeons perform this treatment.

Do a search on Google for keloid for more info.
Reply:My derm told me that stationary rubbing is effective. I have a scar on my chest from surgery and she said to hold my finger on it and rub back and forth, moving the skin but not my finger.
Reply:Yes there are treatments. See a doctor and see if he qualifies for them.
Reply:when u go to a derm they will give u options, but another common one is injections with an IL steroid to shrink them. Works very well, but not sure if they will do that because of his age. Good luck!
