When reducing a keloid scar can you just rub vitamin E on it or any other recomendations?

Im particuly interested in home made "things" that can reduce the apearance of keloid.

When reducing a keloid scar can you just rub vitamin E on it or any other recomendations?
4. Aloe Vera gel and fresh lemon juice can be applied to the scars, so that they fade quickly. Alternately a moisturizing cream with aloe could be applied to the scars . Aloe leaves from the aloe plant can also be used.

5. A paste of turmeric and milk or curd will make the skin fairer and the scars will become less obvious. The paste should be washed away after it dries on the skin.

6. Brush the skin with a scrub or loofah when you take a bath, to improve circulation

7. Increase the intake of foods containing Vitamin A, E and C like carrots, papayas, tomatoes . Also food rich in essential fatty acids like fish oils will help in growth of skin cells.
Reply:try "bio-oil" its supposed to fade scar and stretch marks, from all large chemists
Reply:i used to have that problem before. my mother in law from australia gave me this Herron Natural E 500IU and Bio-Oil. It helps reduce the appearance of both new scars and the old scars. for the Herron Natural E just cut the soft gel capsule and squeeze the oil in it and rub it in affected area. Bio-oil, i used it mainly for my stretch mark but what i do is i apply it like a lotion in my whole body every after bath. it works for me.

i hope it will help you. good luck...

How do you deal with your keloid scar?!?

this is how it all started...about 5 years ago, a hair randomly appeared below my neck on my chest. i decided to pluck the hair out,,guess it was a bad idea because i now have a keloid scar.. at least i think it is because some doctors have told me its a keloid and others have said its a cyst because sometimes it gets infected and fills up with puss. Anyway, does anyone have a similar condition? and if so ..how do you deal with the comments people give you? people ask about it all the time and its rly annoying because sometimes you can see it on their face that they're digusted by it! and lucky me it turned out to be in a very visible place right on my chest i try to wear turtle next but in summer it becomes very hot! i guess im looking for support..and remedies if anyone has some.

How do you deal with your keloid scar?!?
Maybe you should see a plastic surgeon -- especially if it is that annoying that you wear clothes to hide it. A surgeon should be able to help.
Reply:If the keloid really bothers you there are (3) treatment options for you.

1 - surgical removal

2 - non-surgical interventions

3 - Combo treatments

Surgical treatment of keloid scars

This is the most effective and the least complex of the available forms of treatment, the recurrence rate however is thought to be about 50%.

Lasers have been tried as an alternative to knife surgery but so far the outcomes are no better.

Non surgical treatments for keloid scars

Interferon therapy (drugs acting on the immune system), has been reported as effective in reducing keloid scarring however it does have significant side effects. Examples are toxicity, flu like symptoms, depression, nausea and vomiting.

Prolonged compression of scar tissue can theoretically soften and break up keloid scars, however the practicality of this option depends on the location of the keloid. Other non-surgical interventions that are currently being tried with varying results include antihistamines, vitamins, nitrogen mustard, Verapamil, retinoic acids.

Combined treatments for keloid scarring

One option involves surgical removal of scar tissue in combination with a couple of steroid injections -one at the time of the surgery and the second injection about 3 to 4 weeks later. However, this type of treatment is variously reported as having between a 50% to 70% rate of recurrence.

Another option combines surgery with external type radiotherapy. Radiation has the effect of interfering with skin growth (fibroblasts) and collagen production. Research varies on which type of combination therapy is the more effective. Both radiotherapy and steroid drugs have side effects so you need to discuss with your doctor the most effective. It may be worth getting a second opinion before proceeding with either treatment.

No matter what option you choose, consult with your doctor, and try to understand what they CAN do for you. Best of Luck to you!

WIll Mederma help keloid c section scar?

I had a c section in Feb 07 and my scar turned into a keloid. should i try mederma?

WIll Mederma help keloid c section scar?
You may have to try other extreme methods for a keloid.

Methods like visiting a doctor who specializes in keloids or maybe trying the herbal treatment (which are costly). Keloids are very stubborn and in fact hard to treatment. Good luck!!!

I have a keloid from a previous cartilage piercing I took out... can I re-pierce in the same area?

I got a cartilage piercing with a piercing gun about 2 weeks ago, and after doing research on how bad they are, I took it out after two days. There was a bit of swelling and redness at the time I took it out, but that went away soon after. The hole is completely closed now, but there is a small bump on the front of the piercing area and a bigger bump on the back. Is this a keloid? The bump on the front of my ear looks slightly white, like there is pus trapped underneath. How can I get rid of this? I talked to a professional piercer, and he said that sea salt soaks won't work now because there is no hole for the scar tissue to drain out of. I would also like to get it re-pierced in the same spot (with a needle this time)--is this a bad idea because it is right where my old scar tissue is? Or would this help drain the dead tissue?

I talked to several piercers, and I got all different answers. Where would I find the most reliable information about this? Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a keloid from a previous cartilage piercing I took out... can I re-pierce in the same area?
doctors can't do anything about it, it's scar tissue and it probably won't go away like a normal scar won't. though it may get less noticeable after a few years
Reply:I had the same exact thing! I still have it! That's when I realized how bad guns are for piercings. You never use a gun for any piercing on your body, because what it does to the cartliage it shatters it, and gives it a hard time to heal. I got mine piercing when I was 12, and Im 14 now and i still have it in my ear. I say ask the best piercer you know, the most expierenced. Most likely the keloid wont go away, it'll probably take years to go away, probably wont ever go away, it depends, you could get it pierced again, but WITH A NEEDLE! from a professional piercer. and it can break through the keeloid and it'll hopefully be gone, Idk because i've never done it, I was going to, but mind isn't that bad, I let it go, but if it botheres you than talk to a good piercer. You have opitions on how to get rid of it, use a hot compress, soak a clean wash cloth in hot water, and hold it on the keloid, and softly massage it, dont be soo ruff though, the hot compress should shrink it. do that everyday, if i doesn't go away, talk to a piercer. I'm not quite sure if your is a keloid though, it could be, my keloid is inside mine way sound horrible lol but it really is it. Yours doesn't sound good, but regardless of what it is, do the hot compress. and just a tip, you should of never took out the piercing, thats what happened to me, when I was sleeping, i lost the jewelry and that bump started to appear. it would of never happened to you if you didn't take it out, you should of waited till it healed completely and than took it out. I do wish the best of luck to you! God Bless!
Reply:Don't do it. You should see a Dr.

I got a keloid on my belly button...?

I got my belly button pierced almost four months ago and it seemed to be doing okay.Sometimes it bled, sometimes it pussed, but I knew it was normal.About a week ago, I noticed what looked like a keloid forming around the top hole.My friend had gotten one on her nose and used tea tree oil on hers and it went away, so I went out and got some.I've been applying it twice a day since then and it's not red or as big anymore. But it's still hard and it's a little crusty.Does this means it's healing? Should I try and remove the crust?Or should I leave it alone and keep applying the oil? PLEASE HELP.

I got a keloid on my belly button...?
Keloids are very rare and happen more often to people with a higher melanin content in their skin (darker skin tones). They also appear immediately after piercing usually, as a result of the direct trauma of the piercing.

More than likely, you have what piercers like to refer to as "the dreaded bump". It usually occurs when you've gotten your piercing caught (either on clothing, countertops, your dog jumped on it, you rolled over and caught your covers on it at night, etc.). Most often, you have no clue what exactly happened.

Go back to your original aftercare routine and keep it clean.

Stop with the tea tree oil - the tea tree oil is drying and is what's causing the crustyness and making it hard.

With going back to the aftercare, you should see a reduction in the bump in a week or so.
Reply:You should take out the piercing because it seems as if a tumor is going to for and it might be cancerous.
Reply:That happened to my navel piercing, too. It eventually goes away, and it definitely has nothing to do with tumors and cancer!!! Don't pick at it or anything because you don't want to infect the skin. It sounds like it's healing because it's hardening up and disappearing. It just takes a long time is all. I think mine was around for almost a year. Keep it clean and it will be fine. By the way, your piercing shouldn't be pussing, that means it's infected. Soak it with more salt water if it's doing that.

Nose ring infected, keloid? HELP!?

I had my bf pierce my nose with one of those disposable ear piercing guns. Now the piercing has this little red bump on it and the ring goes through it. Is it infected? I read on other questions that it might be a keloid formed from the piercing *I think it's from cheap jewelry*. Should I take it out? or is there a way I can get a better quality ring and keep it clean so the bump goes away?

Oh and now sometimes when i take it out, if I push from the other side of my nose on the inside it almost looks like this skin comes out and there's some blood, I took a little of it out and it didn't hurt, what is that? It's almost like skin or whatever is inside the bump or deeper maybe?

Nose ring infected, keloid? HELP!?
hmm, I'm not an expert but I would say to make sure the earring is real silver and not the fake kind because that will rust and cause irration, clean it several times with the sanitation spray (forget the name right now)...you could always go to a tattoo parlor or piercing place and ask what to do
Reply:The same thing is happening to my nose piercing, how did you fix the problem? It is red and my nose ring was actually an earring i used that rusted so i took it out. now i have nothing in it..its been one day Report It

Reply:That's so funny. You poke a hole in your nose and stick a rivet in it to make yourself more, uh, attractive. Good idea. I better rush out and get some fish hooks for my face. Maybe I could remove the spirol wire from a notebook and weave it all around my face. Then it gets all infected, it looks like the skin comes out, there's blood when you pick at it, how charming. If it was me, I'd just get a custom fitted bag for my head instead, a lot less fussing around.

Take the thing out and leave it out, you'll look a lot better.
Reply:use luke warm water and non iodized salt twice a day for a week or 2...use a quetip to clean the in and outside of your nose
Reply:serves you right. that is the bad effect of body piercing but many

wont listen. you can undergo a nose transplant
Reply:Take the nose ring out a.s.a.p.!
Reply:Well...I'm not sure how much more you could have screwed up, no offense.

For starters, using a piercing gun was not wise. They are not meant for any piercing, that's right...they are horrible for ALL piercing. You should have gone to a professional to have the piercing done

Most likely, what you are going to have to do is either take out the piercing or see a professional piercer to have them give you appropriate jewelry and aftercare instructions.

I don't think what you have is a keloid and to be honest, poor quality jewelry won't cause keloids, it just causes pain and discoloring of the skin and moderate bleeding depending on how your body reacts. I think what you have is probably hypertrophic scarring caused from trauma from the poor materials you used to pierce the area.

http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Keloid

http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Hypert...

The bump is also probably from general irritation, but most likely is going to be hypertrophic scarring and not a keloid.

Usually infections are accompanied with pain, swelling, redness, heated area, bleeding, green pus and even brown/blackening of the skin. So depending on your symptoms, you should be able to determine if its just irritated or infected.

I have a feeling that switching to a correct material, size and type of jewelry will help greatly. So will cleaning the piercing regularly with mild soap and water and using sea salt soaks.

Go to a professional piercer, its easier to fix the problem with they can see the area and not have to guess. I'm very sorry to hear about your troubles, but hopefully you've learned a lesson. Good luck (and sorry if this post seems b*tchy, its not meant to.)
Reply:Keloid is something mother nature give us during healing. Not everyone gets it though. It is definitely not from cheap jewelry! It wouldn't go away on it's own. You need a plastic surgeon to remove it. If you decided not to do anything to it, it'll flatten a bit as you aged. Keloid is caused by hormone.
Reply:LOL

Bet you don't pierce your nipples now.

Does having a keloid problem affect getting tattooed???

i have a keloid problem.. whenever my skin is broken it heals thrice as fast when compared to a normal person. but my skin continues to heal long after the healing is done.. the result is that i tend to get a small or large bump depending on the size of the skin breakage or cut over the area which is nothing but skin cells.. benign lump.. If i get tattooed, will the area of the tattoo become the same???

Does having a keloid problem affect getting tattooed???
Hi

I am a tattoo artist and most keloids that we see are from piercings. A very common thing that can be takin care of with a crushed up asprin and some spring water. You make a paste with it and just rub it into the keloid.

As for the fact that you may get them, well that all depends, maybe you will have better luck if you use a tattoo healing balm like ink fixx, tattoo goo, ect. But if you always get these keloids when you get cuts then theres a good chance you will get them when being tattooed. Best thing is to talk to the person you are getting tattooed by.

Reply:A friend had a similar problem. He was considering a tattoo, and was in the parlor when the artist noticed his scars. The guy told my friend that it was very likely that he would have the same problem with a tattoo that he does with other scars.
Reply:i have the same problem but i had a tattoo done last summer and its fine. no problems at all. just make sure you get a GOOD and CLEAN tattooist.

How to remove keloid scars on the legs without lasers or operation?

I have keloid scars in mylegs so i am so worried how to remove it,can you recommend what is the best cream to remove it totally..

How to remove keloid scars on the legs without lasers or operation?
It depends what bothers you about them.

If they are raised: apply one of the silicone-sheet dresssings (over the counter now in your pharmacy) and keep pressure on it with an Ace-bandage.

If this is not strong enough for you after 2 months - go to a dermatologist and have them injected with Kenalog.

For redness you will need a laser.

Reply:vitamin E, put it right on the keloid or take it orally, or both......not sure, but it wouldn't hurt.
Reply:TRY MEDERMA!

Anybody know about keloid scars?

A friend of mine has a keloid scar on her chest. I did inform her of some surgeries that could be done for removal but do anybody know if there is a ointment or cream out there to help.

Anybody know about keloid scars?
Surgery to remove a keloid can actually make a larger scar. We with the problem (yes, to the woman who mentioned the geneaology) really should avoid non-required surgeries since there is this chance.

The keloid formed when the person had a sore which healed up. It could have been a mosquito bite or a knick or scrape, or soemthing worse. The body over-healed the area. I have a nice keloid on my leg from a shaving cut.

Try the creams but no surgery considerations, OK?
Reply:http://www.nextag.com/keloid-scar-treatm...

keloid ointments.
Reply:I don't think so. I also get them and my doctor said it's common among the French, Native Americans and African Americans, something to do with their healing process.
Reply:No ointment or cream is going to remove a keloid. Mederma claims to make it less prominent. Abrasion Surgery is what effective.
Reply:Kelloids usually can be removed only by surgery, laser being the best option.
Reply:Keloids are thick scar tissue. Creams and ointments, it helps at all may only be minimal because keloids go beneath what you can see. I have major hand surgery and developed massive amounts of scar tissue. My mom developed a keloid that was pressing on a nerve. The doctor said they could remove it, but the chance that it coming come back was real. African-americans are more prone to developing keloid than people not of color.
Reply:Keloids may be reduced in size by freezing (cryotherapy), external pressure, corticosteroid injections, laser treatments, radiation, or surgical removal. It is not unusual for keloids to reappear (sometimes larger than before) after they have been removed.

Can accupuncture help Keloid?

After heart surgery, I have Keloid(scar) at sternam area. It getting thicker and itcheir. I would appreciate any help to stop getting worse. Thanks.

Can accupuncture help Keloid?
There is no evidence that Accupuncture can be used to treat Keloid.

Keloid is basically an overproduction of your skin in response to an injury. Adding more injury through Accupuncture probably will not work.

What will work is steroid injection into the Keloid. See your family doctor or a dermatologist for the steroid injection if the Keloid is bad enough.

Treatment for keloid scars?

How do you treat keloid scars? I have one on my left wrist which I have had since I was 6 years old. It is not really that visible, but it is still there. How do you get rid of it for good?

Treatment for keloid scars?
Although scars cannot be completely removed, their appearance can be improved. Methods for improving the appearance of scars include:

Topical treatments, such as vitamin E, cocoa butter cream, and several commercial skin care products like Mederma are available over-the-counter with the claim to help heal scars but are not effective

Surgery. Although it will not remove a scar, surgery can be used to alter a scar's shape or make it less noticeable. Surgery is not recommended in cases of hypertrophic or keloid scarring (raised scars) because there is a risk of recurring scars as well as more severe scarring that results from the treatment.

Steroid injections. A long term course of steroid injections into a scar may help flatten the scar. Injections may help to soften the appearance of keloid or hypertrophic scars.

Radiotherapy. Low-dose, superficial radiotherapy is used to prevent recurrence of severe keloid and hypertrophic scarring. This treatment is used only in extreme cases because of potential long-term side effects.

Dermabrasion. This treatment involves the removal of the surface of the skin with special equipment. Dermabrasion is useful when the scar is raised above the surrounding skin; but, it is less useful for the treatment of sunken scars. Microdermabrasion is a much less invasive form of dermabrasion and may be useful for very superficial scars.

Laser resurfacing. This procedure, similar to dermabrasion, removes the surface layers of the skin using different types of lasers. Newer types of lasers may achieve more subtle results by working on the collagen in the dermis without removing the upper layers of skin. This advancement results in little to no down time as opposed to traditional laser resurfacing and dermabrasion, which requires a longer recovery.

Filler injections. These treatments can be used to raise sunken scars to the level of surrounding skin. The effects of these injections are usually only temporary, however, and the procedures may need to be regularly repeated. Newer forms of injectable fillers are now on the market and may be an option for some people.

Any one suffering from kheloid / keloid?

i am suffering from severe kheloid / keloid on my chest which is very active, itchy and infectious.. anyone else suffering from keloid.. any treatment options? or do u know anyone else? i am male 26 years from tamilnadu %26amp; at present in bangalore

Any one suffering from kheloid / keloid?
Im sure by now you would know what a keloid is: It is a form of scar that does not stop growing but builds up. Normally when we get hurt or wounded the defect is filled by tough fibrous tissue called a scar. This first grows and then shrinks pulling the edges of the wound together like super glue.

Unfortunately in certain individuals this scar tissue continues to grow and doesnt shrink. The cause of this is not known and it may be genetic.

Im a bit puzzled that you say it is "infectious". If you mean that it occurs in areas of injury thats true. But it should not occur in uninjured skin.

Unfortunately its very difficult to treat keloids. There are some treatment modalities but some of them can be expensive and may not give results.

However you will benefit by seeing a good dermatologist. As you are in bangalore may I suggest the dermatology department at St Johns Medical College.

Hope this helps

Wats da diffrence between a keloid and a knot in my ear ?

Wats da diffrence between a keloid and a knot in my ear ?
If it's a keloid it will never go away. Trying to get it removed will only cause it to come back larger since it's caused by your body not knowing when to stop scarring. And moving a piercing won't help either since a new keloid will form. Sorry there isn't better news!
Reply:A keyloid is overgrown scar tissue.
Reply:You could try getting the keloid taken off either by excision or cryosurgery. However, most of the time keloids come back. You should never pierce the area again. That will only cause you pain adn the keloid to get worse. If you pierce further down the earlobe you should be fine.

Tattoo on bottom inner lip/keloid?

I'm 17 and when I was 14 I had an Industrial on my left ear. Well after about a month I found a charm that I liked and put it on there. Needless to say it was fake and the stuff was rubbing off into my bottom hole, and I ended up getting a disgusting keloid. I now have my lip pierced and so far so good (it's been 1 1/2 years)

Well a good friend of mine met someone at jobcore who is a pro tattooist and is willing to give me one at a good price. I want a tattoo on my bottom inner lip but I was reading up on it and the article said that if you have a keloid, you will get one if you ever get a tattoo,

Is this true?!

Should i get it somewhere else?

And also how is the pain factor on a scale of 1-10?

sorry this was long. thanks everyone !!

Tattoo on bottom inner lip/keloid?
I have had some keloids....on both ears from stretching them...from a cut on my scalp that never got to heal...from a mole that was removed.....

However, I have lots of tattoos (full sleeve, etc) and no keloids or any kind of scarring from that. (I started getting tattooed before I was aware that my body makes keloids)

So your article is wrong. However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful. You could try getting tattooed in an inconspicuous spot, first.

Can i pierce beside a keloid?

wil piercing beside a keloid cause it to regrow? i'm planning to pierce a few millimiters away from the scar. has anyone pierced beside a keloid before and not get a new scar or have the old one grown bigger?

Can i pierce beside a keloid?
it will not cause it to regrow, but you may get a keloid from the new piercing........people prone to keloids tend to get them whenever new 'injuries' happen to the skin area....
Reply:no
Reply:Please be smart about this thing....

If you already have a keloid, it means that you are susceptible to keloids..Why risk another one?
Reply:not recommended at all.. individual experiences can be different too...

Can u pierce under a keloid after u have had it removed or flattin out?

Will a keloid go away if I remove the piercing?

I have a keloid around my nose from a piercing will it go away now that I've removed the piercing?

Will a keloid go away if I remove the piercing?
Chances are it's hypertrophic scarring and not a keloid. Use hot sea salt soaks to get it to go away. If it is a keloid, removing the jewelry won't make it go away.

I suggest looking at safepiercing.org. Read a bit, you'll learn lots :)
Reply:It might, it would have gone down if you would have kept the piercing in %26amp; just kept cleaning it too.
Reply:Probably not. More likely you will have to have the keloid removed.
Reply:no,it will just make it bigger

An old Keloid on my navel!!!! please help me!?

i got my navel peirced about a year ago and i was having problems with it! after it got infected twice i got a keloid! it's not big but it's dark! i wanted to know how do I get rid of it? It's only on the top and if I take my shirt off you can see it very well! How do i shrink it or remove it all together is it even possible?

An old Keloid on my navel!!!! please help me!?
if it is a raised scar go for Cica Care...helps to flatten and lighten it. If its just a flat coloured scar Mederma can help. Effectiveness depends on the age of the scar...so start treatment fast
Reply:plastic surgery!!!
Reply:get a scar cream.
Reply:Try not to traumatize the keloid, it will grow like scratching it or scrubbing. You can go to your dermatologist and ask for a steroid injection, this will help in reducing the size. You can also try Pulsed Dye laser..it works. For the pigment, try bleaching creams as advised also by the doctor. Hope this helps. God bless!
Reply:Keloids are really common with navel piercings.

Email or call your piercer. They have salt water soaks to help with the keloids.

Can i just puncture my keloid using a needle? Experienced ppl or doc./nurses plz?

I have a keloid behind my ear because of piercing. I clean it everynight with anti bacterial soap. It's became a little smaller and softer (good or bad?) but I want it to go away completely quickly.

1- What will the doc. do when i go to him? (I went b4 and he just gave me anti biotics) Will it hurt? Reliable?

2- Can't i just puncture it with a needle @ home?

I'll heat the needle and wash my hands etc. and just poke it and squeeze stuff out of it.

Opinions, suggestions? Plz feel free to tell me more.

P.S. My keloid doesn't hurt and i don't really think it's warm. Not sure though.

Can i just puncture my keloid using a needle? Experienced ppl or doc./nurses plz?
The following are the types of treatment available for Keloids. As far as it being soft or and the softer it gets the better. It is kind of like when a pimple comes to a head as gross as that sounds. As far as you lancing it yourself I would not advise it because the risk for infection and more problems is to high. I hope the following information is helpful and for more information follow the link I have pasted at the bottom. Good luck and you have nothing but my best wishes.

the treatments for keloids?

The methods now available to treat keloids are:

Cortisone injections (intralesional steroids): This is safe and not very painful. Injections are usually given once per month until the maximum benefit is obtained. Injections are safe (very little steroid gets into the body) and usually help flatten keloids; however, steroid injections can also make the flattened keloid redder by stimulating the formation of more superficial blood vessels. (These can be treated using a laser; see below.) The keloid may look better after treatment than it looked to start with, but even the best results leave a mark that looks and feels quite different from surrounding skin. For more, please read the Cortisone Injection article.

Surgery: This is risky, because cutting a keloid can trigger the formation of a similar or even larger keloid. Some surgeons achieve success by injecting steroids or applying pressure dressings to the wound site after cutting away the keloid. Radiation after surgical excision has also been used.

Laser: The pulsed-dye laser can be effective at flattening keloids and making them look less red. Treatment is safe and not very painful, but several treatment sessions may be needed.

Silicone sheets: This involves wearing a sheet of silicone gel on the affected area for several hours a day for weeks or months, which is hard to sustain. Results are variable. Some doctors claim similar success with compression dressings made from materials other than silicone.

Cryotherapy: Freezing keloids with liquid nitrogen may flatten them, but often darkens the site of treatment.

Interferon: Interferons are proteins produced by our immune systems which help fight off viruses, bacteria, and other challenges. In recent studies, injections of interferon have shown promise in reducing the size of keloids, though it's not yet certain whether that effect will be lasting. Current research is underway using a variant of this method, applying topical imiquimod (Aldara), which stimulates the body to produce interferon.

Fluorouracil: Injections of this chemotherapy agent, alone or together with steroids, have been used as well for treatment of keloids.

What is keloid scarring?

Can someone plz explain what keloid scarring is

What is keloid scarring?
A keloid is a special type of scar which results in an overgrowth of tissue at the site of a healed skin injury. Keloids are firm, rubbery lesions or shiny, fibrous nodules and can vary from pink to flesh-colored or red to dark brown in color. A keloid scar is benign, non-contagious and usually accompanied by severe itchiness, sharp pains and changes in texture. In severe cases, it can affect movement of skin. Keloids should not be confused with hypertrophic scars, which are raised scars that do not grow beyond the boundaries of the original wound and may reduce over time.

Reply:Keloid scarring is when granlar tissue fills in at the scar site and it heals raised instead of flat.
Reply:Keloid scarring is an abundance of scar tissue. It forms pretty significant masses. Usually, keloids are caused from the healing of deep burns. That's basically it.
Reply:It is thick hardened red scars that occur and remain after a wound heals. Many people with sensitive skin types get them from surgical incisions or around large cuts. They are quite common after major surgery.

There are good topical prescriptions that work well to fade and flatten such scars.

I may be prone to keloid scarring, should I get a peircing?

I've had my ears pierced before, and had no problem, but years since then I've experienced keloid scarring on the backs of my shoulders.

Should I avoid having any more piercings just in case? or can keloid scarring be specific to a part of the body (eg: my back) and having facial piercings could be ok?

I may be prone to keloid scarring, should I get a peircing?
depends if you want to take the risk or not. personally i wouldnt.

Question about keloid?

I think I am a type of person who gets keloid easily. i already have a small one in my chest and think i am growing another one on side of my neck ( probably due to healing skin of acne) . this is really frustrating and im really scared that i will get one somewhere no my face that is really visible due to acne that i have. so is there anything i could do to prevent these? i have heard being hygine ( which i already am) but i dont know anything else. help please. thnaks.

Question about keloid?
Keloid is basically a type of scar, it's from tissue overgrowing at the site of a healed injury. The best way to prevent getting it on your face is to not get injured.
Reply:my daughter has keloids from the scarring from chicken pox when she was little. they actually became very large. one was under the exact spot her bra hit. i took her to a dermatologist who shaved it off and then she went back for injections about 4 times. it has not returned. these are scars. the only way to prevent them is to not get injuries. if you are prone to them, do not pick at pimples or acne on your face. if you do end up with one, see a dermatoligist.

should i take out the piercing, i really dont wanna go see a doctor, ive talked to pierciest on the phone about it, they say not to go see a doctor its justa keloid but i dont know about that....help meeee!

Infection!? or keloid?! monroe piercing?
its a keloid.

you should really go see your piercist about it and to tell you the truth, perhaps your doctor...
Reply:keloid doesn't build up in 4 weeks, keloid is thick scar tissue and it takes time to build up. It could be that the tissue is still swollen or it is an infection starting

What is the treatment for keloid? I am really worried. Please help.?

I have a keloid in the back side of my ear, which developed after i got it pierced few years back.. It has grown over a period of time and is now considerably visible. Please help with any information regarding its treatment. I have already taken injections (kenacort), which hasn't helped. The keloid is growing and i am worried now. Please help me get rid of this.

What is the treatment for keloid? I am really worried. Please help.?
The treatment modalities available are:

Corticosteroid injection, repeated every few weeks

Cryotherapy which involves freezing the keloid with liquid nitrogen

Pressure dressings

Silicone gel dressings

Self-adhesive polyurethane scar reduction patches

Pulsed dye laser. This is a costly procedure

Surgical excision (but may result in a second keloid even larger than the original one)

Laser surgery to cut the keloid

Radiotherapy to remove the keloid

Persons who tend to develop keloids should avoid cosmetic procedures to their skin. If surgery is necessary, an injection of cortisone can be made into the skin first. This may lower the risk of developing a keloid.

Keloids may be cosmetically embarrassing. However, they cause no long-term health problems. Keloids are not contagious and pose no risk to others.
Reply:the only cure for keloid scarring is surgery. the cortisone injection is supposed to break up the scar tissue, but, if that hasnt worked, you will need to see a plastic surgeon.

i have keloid scarring but my doctor has told me that it will settle down in about 8 months as it doesnt seem to be forming any more, but if yours is still growing i would recommend surgery
Reply:Keloids are smooth overgrowths of fibroblastic tissue that arise in an area of injury (eg, surgical scars, truncal acne) or, occasionally, spontaneously.

It must be noted that there is no treatment for keloids that is considered to be 100% effective.
Reply:Treatment for keloid scars

There are 3 treatment options for keloid scars:

surgical removal

non-surgical interventions

combination treatments.

I will briefly discuss each one.

A revolutionary breakthrough in the treatment of Keloids and Hypertrophic Scars http://www.etgargroup.com/

The treatment is accompanied by local anesthesia and hence is painless, including after the treatment. No sutures are involved!

The surgical session lasts from 5 to 30 minutes, depending on scar volume.

The CryoShape induces necrosis of the inner scar tissue but spares the surrounding skin. By using the CryoShape the scar surface is minimally injured while only the deep scar tissue is destroyed. As a result the original skin pigmentation is usually completely preserved.

Permanent scar/keloid?

i had an internal operation when i was 9 yrs of age. now i am 15 yrs old %26amp; i still have the scar in my stomach. really bad keloid, about 5 inches in size. i just hate it. is there anything i can do except another operation to make it disappear? i am dying to wear bikinis for the summer!

Permanent scar/keloid?
see a dermatologist
Reply:waterproof coverup??

thats probably the best unless you want more operations
Reply:Chanel,

You may be able to play with fashion. Boy cut bikini bottoms are sometimes higher at the waist...that might help.

You can try a saran that you wrap around your waist...but once you remove it your scar will show.

You can maybe to do a professional makeup store and see if there is any coverup make up that is used in film to hide your scar. They may have a water proof formula that will allow you to go into the water.

Other than an operation...your option might be limited.

It gets really embrassing And the bad thing about it is there puffy and they stick out a bit so make up won't really help other than surgery there is nothing that will really make it disappear. I say wear your bikini anyway. I have about eight all over my body and there's really nothing I can do about until I can get surgery and I'm not about to keep from wearing what I wanna wear until then

Can a keloid scare to removed or at least tx permanently?

I have one hard keloid scar on my back, I got the injection to soften it, but now it's flare up again, it's very irritating. Did anyone had this, and was successfully treated???

Can a keloid scare to removed or at least tx permanently?
I also have a tendency to form keloids and have one (from surgery for a malignant melanoma) that runs across my back from shoulder blade to shoulder blade. I live with it. I am not vain and it is also a reminder that I had and survived a deadly skin cancer.

There is nothing you can do yourself but there are options available to treat keloids. Treatments include:

cortisone injections

laser treatment

cryosurgery

surgery followed with radiation

Most of the time, doctors will not do regular surgery just to remove the keloid. The reason why is that the chances are good the keloid would just return. Keloids are extremely hard to treat. Please see a dermatologist to see what other options are best for your skin type since the injections didn't do as much as you had hoped. Speak to a dermatologist about another option to try (listed above). While there is no way to get rid of it, it is scar tissue, the appearance and symptoms of it can be treated. Good luck!

Nose piercing/keloid question?

i got my nose pierced 3 months ago. about a month into it a keloid began to form but i was just told it would go away. i repeatedly went to a couple piercers and they have all said the same thing, dont touch it and give it time. It is really big (bigger then the actual stud) and has recently started turning black and bluish i dont know what to do, want to keep my piercing but i CANT have this bump on my nose any more! help!!

Nose piercing/keloid question?
^^^ Along with that, all I can suggest is tea tree oil. I tried the salt soaks, but they irritated the bumps I had on my helix piercings. I sound like a commercial, but after using the tea tree oil the bumps are gone and my ears are finally healed and normal looking, lol!

Good luck..
Reply:try leaning over in the sink running watter as hot as you can stand on the piercing, use a sea salt rinse, clean it everyday, don't touch it unless you've clean your hands with anti-bacterial soap. Don't take out the piercing, that will lock in any infection only making things worse. if you don't see improvements you should see a doctor and get antibiotics to help
Reply:I am having the same problem! I went to my piercer yesterday and he gave me instructions on how to get rid of it. I followed it all day yesterday and the bump went down significantly!! Here is what he said:

Do extremely hot compresses with purified water for 1 minute at a time at a total of 10-15 minutes, then dry thoroughly with a clean paper towel. (I put some bottled water in a coffee cup and microwave it for 45 secs. then use a cotton ball or pad to put on my piercing, once it reaches room temperature use a new cotton ball and continue for the remainder of time) Only use the regular Neosporin and create a thin layer of the ointment on your fingers and just dab or touch (do not rub) it onto the area. Apply it and then go to bed and when you wake up in the morning clean it off in the shower with a liquid anti-microbial soap (Satin, Provon or medical soap provided at a piercer) and continue this for about 1-2 weeks even if it seems to have gone away or is not getting better. After 2wks contact your piercer for further instruction.

Am I developing ear keloid????

So I just got an industrial done 4/22, I really started to notice a really small bump at the bottom piercing of the industrial. It kind of looks like it's in the middle of the industrial. It doesn't hurt, it isn't red or anything, and almost insn't notiable. Is this a keloid, or it this something that just happens when your ear is healing. What are the symptoms of a keloid? And if this is one, how can I stop it from growning more?

Am I developing ear keloid????
hey! i had the same problem when i gaged my ears! it probably is a small keloid developing so what u have to do is keep the area clean and prevent it from getting infected. also, TEA TREE OIL WORKS WONDERS! it will halt the keloid from growing and perhaps make it smaller (depending on the size) and it'll scab off. use rubbing alcohol b4 this too.

I am developing a keloid next to cartilage piercing?

Ok i got my cartilage(helix) pierced with a gun at clairs on March 28. PLEASE don’t say ANYTHING about what guns do to your ears, i have heard it all.

I have known since then that my chances of infection and keloid devolvement are very high. For the past couple of days my ear has been very itchy, i thought it meant it was healing. Yesterday it started swelling really bad, and still is swollen. Tonight when i was cleaning it I felt a bump on my ear, I can see it now that I know its there (see picture) its a LITTLE red, and i realized the itchiness has revolved around that spot. If it is a keloid, which i think it is, it is just devolving. It wasn’t there this morning. If it is more noticeable i will make a doctors appointment tomorrow and get cortisone injections

should i take out my earring? I have heard when you take it out the keiod stops growing. IF i take it out, will i be able to get it at a later time in the same ear? (this time properly at a tattoo/piercing place)

I am developing a keloid next to cartilage piercing?
okee dokee... i have four piercings there... all done with guns.

don't take the piercing out. you just need to soak it in warm sea salt water. you can get sea salt in the spice section at kroger. mix the sea salt in hot water (has hot as you can withstand) in a dixie cup. mix it so it's all dissolved. soak and i mean SOAK a couple of cotton balls and keep it on your piercing for 10 minutes, twice a day. it should go away within two weeks. that happened with my belly piercing and it went away FAST.
Reply:I got those on my cartilidge piercing. I have my tragus and rook done.

Do sea salt soaks. I believe its a coffee cup size of hot water with 1/4 teaspoon of SEA SALT.

Immerse your whole ear to make sure the entire piercing is covered in that water and let it soak for 10 minutes. This is going to get blood flow to the area.

Do this once or twice a day. You'll start to see the keloid go down within 1-2 days. DON'T STOP DOING THE SEA SALTS. It will eventually go away, but keep doing them. The soaks will keep that away.

I stopped doing them and they came back!!

Basically once the piercing entirely heals the keloids should go away all together. It's a sign your body realizes that the big thing in the hole (i.e the earring) isn't going away.

Good luck! If they grow in size, I suggest going to a professional piercer for help.
Reply:Usualy you develop the keloid at the site of the piercing, or at least I did. I had mine for a year before I started to develop a keloid that was significantly larger than the one you're describing. I too had mine done at Claire's. Honestly, if you really want to keep it keep cleaning it like crazy and consult a peircing parlor specialist. They may reccommend you remove it and let it heal, then repierce it with a needle instead. I had to remove mine as the keloid made it had to close a lot of earrings. Don't let that happen. If you find it's always irritated, without relief, remove it and just get it redone by a piercing parlor. The keloid will shrink, though mine never fully went away.
Reply:Ok, speaking from experience here, I had the same problem with my helix piercing. Did you have a recent trauma to that ear? Did you hit it or get it jerked on recently? A granuloma can develop if that is the case. They are totally different than keloids. Do reading up on granuloma. I suggest starting with a google on the subject piercing granuloma. You will find that they are much more common than keloids, and they DO go away, as a real keloid does not. Mine turned out to be a granuloma and it took about a month, and it is finally gone. And yes, I did remove the piercing. Next time see a professional, ok? Good luck.
Reply:It's not a keloid, it's hypotrophic scarring. And it can be healed. Do seal salt compresses twice a day on the tissue (1/4 teaspoon to a cup of water, and nuked for 30 seconds).

Once again, I recommend you go to a piercing studio and get the jewelry changed. The swelling can cause the stud in your ear to embed inside your skin, since it isn't long enough to accomodate it.

DO NOT take it out. If it's infected, or has puss stuff in it (which it may very well), it can trap that gunk under the skin and cause festering. The doctor will tell you to take it out. DON'T. Doctors are not trained to deal with piercing wounds, which are different from other wounds.

You probably don't need cortisone. You just need good jewlery and aftercare.

But if you do, a knowledgeable piercer will definately be able to tell you.

Go to a studio and get proper jewelry.
Reply:claires is a bad place.. and would suggest sea salt.. good stuff.. and maybe if its swollen.. once I had swelling so bad in my carilage.. I had a pounding headache. take it out if worsens
Reply:take it out dont even waste your time or money with the doc. its a $10 piercing you made a mistake you know that take it out it will heal up and the keloid will go away ( i did the same thing 10 years ago and had the same results i put up with it for 6 years) when its all healed up in a few months go to a professional piercer at a tattoo shop and have him do it the right way ya know i dont even know why those twits are allowed to do this to ppl goodluck

This site is pretty helpful.

Itching is normal, don't take the jewelry out you will have to re-pierce through scar tissue which can be painful. I have had keliods in my rook piercing and also my nose they do go away, but sometimes they need a little help.
Reply:warm water with 1/4 teaspoon of SEA SALT.

How to alleviate a keloid from nose piercing?

I have had this nose piercing for almost 1 year. I have had a keloid before (5 mths ago) with this piercing and it went away when I put in a larger gauge (thinner shaft/stem). Now this keloid has appeared out of nowhere and I don't think there is a larger gauge than 18 or 20 and I already have that size in my nose now. Is there any medication to suppress this reaction. Should I change my nose bone or just take it out?

How to alleviate a keloid from nose piercing?
You should probably go down a gauge. That happened because you stretched your skin too fast. Go down some guages and see what happens. I'm thinking that the keloid should get smaller but it will take some time.
Reply:talk to a plastic surgeon.
Reply:Sometimes getting the keloid injected with a steroid will stop the inflammatory reaction (that is what is causing the keloid). A dermatologist can do this. Cutting a keloid off usually just results in another keloid.
Reply:Keloids are something you develop depending on your genetics. Some people scar up easier than others. For scars, like from removing moles, a doctor can inject medication that causes the scar to sink down and not be a lump.

Help in piercing problem: Keloid or hypertrophic scar?

I had an eyebrow piercing at the beginning of September 2006. 2-3 weeks ago I noticed a red small bump around the bottom hole. I went to my piercer and she advised me for sea salt soaks for 20 mins each night before sleep on top of regular cleaning. The bump didnt grow but it didn't shrink and today I went back to the piercer and she said it looks like a keloid. I have a few questions since I found too many contradicting advices on the web:

1) What is the difference between a keloid and hyperstrophic scar?

2) My piercer suggested aspirin paste but some people suggested Vitamin E or tea trea oil. Whats better for leaving no (or slight) scarring behind?

3) I want to take out the piercing permanently but I don't know when it would be better to so the damage is minimized to the piercing skin area. I could do it right now and then try the aspirin or oil treatment. Or should I try the treatments with the piercing and take it out after 2 weeks.

Help in piercing problem: Keloid or hypertrophic scar?
I had a similar problem with a cartilage piercing. A few days after I removed the piercing the "bump" went away and it has healed with no scar.

I think that the treatment I gave it helped a lot in that department. I cleaned it twice a day with hydrogen peroxide, I massaged the site firmly and gently 4 to 5 times a day and applied mederma before and after the massage. (If you can't find Mederma you may use vitamin e)

Also, do any of the scars you have ever gotton appear raised or discolored? If not, the chances of it being a keloid is quite small.

Good luck!! And yes, take the piercing out before treatment. Sometimes they will heal leaving the piercing and sometimes they have to be repierced. Good luck!

Ok I have a keloid...?

I changed my cartilage stud out a few days ago and noticed I have a keloid behind it. I've read about them and everything but is it absolutley nessicary for me to take out my peircing for it to heal, or if I leave it alone will the keloid heal on it's own?

Ok I have a keloid...?
i actually have the exact same thing except my scar is kind of big. so i had to take out the earring because eventually the scar could grow over the back of it and i didnt want that. im going to the doctor to get the scar taken off and then i can get it repierced. if the scar doesnt bother you and isnt growing you can leave it in, but the keloid wont heal on its own. i tried everything and nothing worked
Reply:If it is just a bump right now you may be able to reduce it with bactine or rubbing alcohol (I have one on my navel piercing that comes and goes). If it is actually a keloid, there is nothing you can do besides have it removed by a doctor. It is scar tissue, meaning permanent.

Keloid scar and more pregnancies?

I had a c-section when I had my son. If I have any more children I'll need a c-section because my spins are too narrow. With the c-section a keloid formed. My question is: If I have any more children will the scar become larger? And how can I prevent this?

Keloid scar and more pregnancies?
You can't prevent the keloid from getting larger, unfortunately. It will probably get bigger if you have another c-section. Keloids are formed because of a large amount of melanin in the skin, so if you are darker-skinned, you'll always have to deal with them. Sorry. You could try laser treatment. It will work with keloids. Good luck.

I have a keloid on the back of my ear...?

i just took out my 2 week old cartilage piering becuase i got it done with a gun. on the back of my ear there is a keloid (i think) for about a week it has hurt when i put sea salt on the back of my ear, but not hte front. i thought it was nothing, so i was suprized. i think its a keloid, i saw on anougher post that it could be a bump of infection? i cant see it that cleary, but my mom was like that gross, its all red and stuff! (it bled when i took it out)

my question is what do i do to makeit go away? i have heard of laser treatment, but its not that big. (its smaller then half a dime) wil it go away on its own if i continue to use sea salt?

i will vote for a best answer

I have a keloid on the back of my ear...?
This isn't uncommon, and it's easy to fix!

Go to the drugstore and get Vitamin E capsules.

Three times a day, pierce a capsule with a sterilized needle, and squeeze the goop inside onto your clean finger. Apply it to both sides of your ear, all over and around the bump, and on the front side as well. In three weeks this treatment will do wonders.

Be sure you get the capsules, Vitamin E oil in a tube or squeeze bottle just doesn't seem to work as well.

Good luck!
Reply:talk to a dermatologist and plastic surgeon to get the best advice.
Reply:Keep using sea salt soaks. It's not a keloid; since you took out the earring before it was healed, your ear is trying to get rid of the dying cells but there is no way for it to drain now. So it is building up in a sort of "zit".

Dissolve 1 teaspoon sea salt in 1 cup of water as hot as you can stand. Soak your ear in it for 5-10 minutes. Do this 2-3 times a day.

If it doesn't start getting better in a few days, see a professional piercer and s/he can help you.
Reply:Keliods can need a few things. Time will usually heal a small one from a piercing but if that doesn't work after the puncture is all healed and it's still there or getting worse you may need a shot of shot or antibiotic that you can get at a walk in clinic and be in and out. Laser is extreme for how small it is. But if it gets worse or doesn't go away see your doctor or call and ask what might help. Sea Salt soaks should help a lot though, that will sooth the skin and help your ear heal which could quite easily in turn heal the Keliod bump. Good luck, those can really suck.

**Vitamin E is a really good idea too. Pair that with Sea Salt soaks and it should go away on it's own.

Keloid after piercing?

i used to have a cartilage piercing, but than i took it out b/c it was leaning against a small part of skin (above the piercing) at night everytime i slept. the earring was on the left ear, at night i'd start off sleeping on my right side, and than when i woke up, i'd end up on my left side. so, now theres like this small thing above where the piercing was. i think its called a keloid, it's very small. anyways, how do you get rid of it? i know something about an aspirin/distilled water mask, so i am doing that, i only did it once so far. i think you have to do it 2-3 x per week until it goes away.

If it really bother you I would go see a physician. Intralesional steroid injections appear to work best. A number of other options include: surgical excision, compression therapy, injection of antineoplastic agents and many more.

I have keloids and get them pretty much from any skin injury I get. I have used Vitamin E (I buy the cheap capsules, poke a hole in one with a needle and use that one for a week, rubbing the oil over the wound every day). I have made several keloids go away by using this method. It takes weeks but persistence pays and they are now all gone.

I have a keloid, but I want another piercing?

I have a keloid on my knee from a really deep cut that I never got stitches on. I really want a small stud in my nose. I was going to try testing the spot out with a clean needle, then wait and see if anything comes. But then I didn't want that small spot to go into a hudge keloid on my nose. What should I do???

I have a keloid, but I want another piercing?
I had surgery on my neck and got a pretty big keloid. I was nervous to get my nose pierced, but wanted it really bad, so I went for it.

I love my piercing and I don't have a keloid! Yay! I say if you want it, go for it, just be sure to be rigorous with the salt water soaks, keeping it clean and be gentle to make sure you don't get lots of scar tissue. I think the salt water helps to keep scarring to a minimum.
Reply:if you have a keloid in one place it does not mean you are going to get a keloid in another place. Also, do not go testing out areas of your body with needles....it is not safe or sanitary no matter how "clean" you think it may be.

Have a professional do it ALWAYS dear.

No offense but are you high while trying these "procedures"?

Keloid Scar Medicine?

I am 12 years old and have a keloid scar from scoliosis surgery six months ago on my hip, from a bone graph. My mom wants to get it fixed, but I just want medicine to rub on it. Do you know of any I could use? I really don't want anyone to open up my scar without anesthesia, which apparently doesn't happen. Thanks in advance.

Keloid Scar Medicine?
Keloids are difficult to get rid of. For instance, you can't cut them out because you'll probably just get another keloid. Some dermatologists have had success with injecting them with a steroid, but that's inconsistent. Other doctors have tried freezing them with liquid nitrogen. I recommend that you get it looked at as soon as you can. Keloid treatment works best if it's done early.
Reply:i know that cortisone is given after operations to decrease fibrous tissue formation which leads to adhesions %26amp; keloid formation, as it inhibits action of fibroblasts.

but as ur scar is old, i am not sure that it could work... but still u can get it fixed by cosmotic surgery... by laser as i think. it gives perfect reliable results.

good luck

Keloid and hypertrophic?

What is the difference between keloid and hypertrophic scars? Is there any possible way to make them less noticeable?

Keloid and hypertrophic?
ok, from what my dr. told me, keloids are raised and expand past the wound site, while hypertrophic scars a basically only on the site of the wound. if its a relatively young scar (less than 3-6 months) try mederma...rub it on the scar 3-4 times a day. if its older use silicone pressure patches. they're over the counter and easy to use...neosporin makes a great patch, called scar solutions i think...Curad also makes one under scar therapy. they're relatively inexpensive, as far as treatments go. just put the patch on the scar and keep it on for 12-24 hours, and it's waterproof! this is the treatment i used, along with injections for a year, after a major surgery. my keloid is relatively flat and still soft, and its now 4 years old. hope this was helpful

Keloid around nose peircing?

I got my nose pierced last April. A few months ago, I noticed a lump around my piercing, I thought it was an infection, and went back to my piercer. She told me that it was a keloid and to put tea tree oil on it twice a day. I have been doing that for two months, and it has not gone away. What should I do?

Keloid around nose peircing?
Keloids are common among the African American community.

Flava flav girl in second season had some.

Maybe surgery, but no no sort of tea is going to help.
Reply:use a hot paper towel as hot as u can stand and compress it for about five minutes then use the sea salt and water solution to create a suction around the piercing and soak for about 15 minutes....every night for two weeks...its supposed to dry it out Report It

Reply:Make sure that your nose jewelry does not have nickel in it. Many people are allergic to this metal.
Reply:I had the same problem. Turns out that I am allergic to Nickel. I took that one out and got it repierced on the other side. This time the piercer put in a plastic bone. These are fairly new. Ask him if they have them. I have not had any problems with it and I've had it for about a year now. It's great!!
Reply:i have had a keloid on the back of my ear for years. The only thing that will get rid of it = I have been told is surgery. Or see your dermitoligist.
Reply:Take out the piercing if your body is reacting to it. Perhaps piercings aren't for you.
Reply:to get rid of it u can see about surgery obviously ur whole skin doesnt keloid cuz any type of cut or piercing would make u keloid, my grandmas friend has keloid skin and she had a big cut and it keloided and the doctors said if she got it removed then another scar would appear and keloid, so now she she has a big lump on her arm!!!
Reply:Keloids are very common in African American and Asia skin. If it truly is a keloid there is no type of oil that can get rid of it. The only way is surgery. You should see your family physician and have him tell you. If it is don't get anymore piercings because they will come up everywhere you Peirce. keloids don't occur after a small cut or a scratch, but always after a traumatic event (ex: surgery, piercings, etc.) it is your bodies way of healing itself. Just be careful what you choose to do to your skin.
Reply:i notice that ALOT of people who have nose piercing have that too.

just be patient and listen to what the doc said.

if not u can laser it away.

that is when u have strike rich.

alternatively,

just take out the stud!

Keloid question?

Is it possible that an infected piercing can swell up and look like a keloid? How do i tell the difference?

Keloid question?
Keloids are more common in blacks, and yes it is very possible to get keloids from ear piercing in fact it is kinda common. I dont think you could confuse it with a swelling though. Keloid looks like an outgrowth from your ear.

Reply:you have to give it time but make sure you are applying anti-biotic ointment to reduce scarring. good luck.
Reply:An infection will likely be hot, red and painful. a keloid will be none of those.

People who develop keloids are likely to continue to do so and might want to limit traum to the skin
Reply:yes, that is very possible. that is one of the risks of lip piercing. a keloid is a raised growth of fibrous scar tissue. Keloids are thick, smooth areas of pink scar tissue.

Keloid Scaring?

Not really a question as such, does anyone on here suffer with keloid scaring? Would love to hear from you, please leave comments or email me. Thanks :-)

Keloid Scaring?
myself, my father, my sister and two of my daughters suffer with keloid scarring, not sure exactly what you want to know. the degree of the scarring depends on the degree of the injury or operation.
Reply:Have just discovered a really good site

Maybe they might be able to help you.
Reply:My husband has very severe keloid scarring from a car accident in which he broke both arms and had numerous operations. He has tried lots of remedies to reduce them including cic-care silicone gel pads, steroid injections, pressure bandaging and all sorts of creams but the best healer so far has to be time! They are not as raised and the purple is fading too....................

I got a keloid from my nose ring, will I get one from a tattoo?

I had to get my nose re-pierced about 4 times because the post wasn't long enough and it would fall out and close up. I believe this is what caused the keloid to form. I have two holes in each ear and my cartilage pierced and I'd never gotten one before. I'm thinking about getting a small tattoo on the back of my neck. How likely is it that I will get a keloid from it?

The second answerer is correct.

Keloids are cause by an auto-immune disorder.

You just happen to have a nasty bump on your nose because you irritated it so much.

If you didn't have any problem with any of your other piercings, you should be fine.
Reply:very unlikely unless you are black...so do you have a big bubble on your nose or what? I'm sorry, I bet that hurts, I know it would getting it done 4 times anyways!
Reply:The number of piercings in one spot does not determine keloid formation, %26amp; although more common in african-americans, anyone can have them. Keloids are an auto-immune disorder in which the body over produces scar tissue to replace damaged tissue, so chances are likely if you get a tattoo or other piercing or injury.
Reply:Chances are, no, probably not. If you have other piercings and only the nose keloided up you should be fine. Some people are prone to getting keloids, other people just kinda accidently get one when a piercing goes wrong. It really sounds like you are one of those people. To be safe though (if you have the money) you may want to see a dematologist and ask them about it. I truely think you'll be fine though. Just make sure that you take care of your tattoo exactly how the artist tells you to.

EXPERT & EXPERIENCED ONLY: Piercing near keloid site?

Hi,

I believe I did not make my question clear before, sorry. SO...

I have a rather big keloid on my left lobe as a result of repiercing on a scar site. however, my right lobe piercing seems to b doing just fine with little scarring, which was also repierced. My piercings were all done by gun, and at a very young age.

Recently, I've been thinkin about gettin more lobe piercings. Sounds crazy right?

I do not think I'm very prone to keloid, cause when i get scartches or anything, it heals just fine.

I'm considering gettin my left lobe pierced slightly above the first, a few millimeters away from the keloid site. I'm thinkin about going to a professional body piercer, as I've heard that needle piercing causes less trauma to the skin, thereby reducing scarring...

Is there anyone out there who has some professional, or advice from experience regarding my planned piercing, process, aftercare and products or any such.

Much appreciated, thanks

EXPERT %26amp; EXPERIENCED ONLY: Piercing near keloid site?
I would do what you're planning. It might be just where you had it pierced the first time that it was off and caused the keloid, dunno why. but if you don't have it on the other side..? I woulld definitly go to a professional piercer. I have keloids too and have never gotten any after having piercings done by them..not saying you won't but, i definitly think they do a better job. they have more of an idea of what they're doing than some 16y.o. working at the mall at her first job piercing ears.
Reply:I'm sorry I'm no expert but I can say getting a piercing done professionally is best, that gun causes to much damage. you'll have to ask the piercer about the location but make sure you wash it twice a day with dial anti bacterial soap. wash your hands with dial before touching the piercing, and one a day soak the piercing in sea salt water. you'll get all that from the piercer. I've gotten my lobes done twice each and my cartilage with a gun Now i have a huge not around the cartalidge site. But i went a piercer for my nips and tounge. and i can tell you it hurt less with the needle than the evil gun. my advice is to see a professional piercer. go to piercology.com its a place in Columbus OH but a great place, they maybe able to help you find a reputable one near you.

Home Ear Piercing: Keloid???

i pierced my ear by myself a few weeks ago, so its partially healed. before i pierced it, i was worried that i was going to get a keloid (scar tissue bump) i noticed a few days ago that there is a knot of tougher tissue below the piercing that isn't visible, but i can feel it. is this normal or is it a keloid. Will it go away?

Home Ear Piercing: Keloid???
Knots of tissue arent "normal" but they do happen. If it is a knot around your piercing, it is likely still healing. A knot below, above, behind, etc is often the start of a keloid.

Keloids arent the end of the world and will go away over time as long as you take correct care of your piercing and keep it from getting aggravated or caught on things. Just leave everything alone except when you are cleaning it.

If you arent using sea salt soaks, give that a try. Ears love it and often it will help them heal and bring down keloids a little faster over time.

Keloid on industrial...?

I got an industrial a little over a month ago. There's now a little lump on the inside of my ear, around the bar. It's about the size of a large pimple, and is the same color/texture/etc. as the rest of my ear.

It's a keloid, right? How can I get rid of it? (I want to avoid having to take the piercing out, if possible.) I've been soaking it in sea salt water and holding a warm rag against it.

Is it okay to use cortizone around the area?

Keloid on industrial...?
Use this site to see if its a keloid or something else:

http://www.gothamworld.com/whatisthisbum...

I was worried I had a keloid but learned it was just a follicular cyst and I used sea salt soaks twice a day and also took the piercing out for a couple minutes to let the stuff ooze out and after a week it was gone.

Keloids I believe are scar tissue formed. They can go away eventually if you take the proper care and figure out why it formed. Most I've heard had to have it surgically removed.

If you're really worried I would go back to your piercer and have them look at it. They are usually very helpful and are the experienced ones.
Reply:i have a few suggestions for you..

emu oil- if you can find some, use it to massage around the hole 2 or 3 times a day

jojoba oil- use it the same way that you'd use emu oil

maderma- (you can find it at walmart).... rub some of that on maybe twice a day, and that should get rid of it as well..

dont use cortizone...

oh, and also, if you're doing sea salt soaks, thats good...

just be sure to do it 2 or 3 times a day, and with warm water... (thats important)..

good luck :]

Keloid Scars?

i have a small keloid scar from my eyebrow piercing, is theyre actually any methods that dont include surgery or doctors to remove?

Keloid Scars?
Non surgical treatments for keloid scars:

Interferon therapy (drugs acting on the immune system), has been reported as effective in reducing keloid scarring however it does have significant side effects. Examples are toxicity, flu like symptoms, depression, nausea and vomiting.

Prolonged compression of scar tissue can theoretically soften and break up keloid scars, however the practicality of this option depends on the location of the keloid. Other non-surgical interventions that are currently being tried with varying results include antihistamines, vitamins, nitrogen mustard, Verapamil, retinoic acids.

The best initial treatment is to inject long-acting cortisone (steroid) into the keloid once a month. After several injections with cortisone, the keloid usually becomes less noticeable and flattens in three to six month's time.
Reply:The only way to get rid of ti is to hide it with conceler
Reply:Keloids may be reduced in size by freezing (cryotherapy), external pressure, corticosteroid injections, laser treatments, radiation, or surgical removal. It is not unusual for keloids to reappear (sometimes larger than before) after they have been removed.

Please see the web pages for more details and images on Keloids.
Reply:Are you sure it's a Keliod? alot of the time it's just garbage backed up in the ole of the piercing. If you are prone to Keliods (you have others on your body) than it probably is a keliod. If not, try crushing up some asprin, and add some water and make it into a paste and put that on the area. If it is just a raised scar, this should reduce the size of it. I don't know why it work, but it does.
Reply:You could seek laser treatments but it may keep growing which keloids have a habit of doing. Talk to a dermatologist about it.

Keloid scars???

I am 31 and have had a few large bumps since I was about 16. They are only on my upper chest and on the back of my shoulders.( A few strays here %26amp; there on my back) My family Dr. called them "keloid " scars or something like that. I have been told that my skin type is very susceptible to this, and that it is hereditary. My biological father had them too, I am told. Any advice on removing/fading them? How about making sure my daughters don't suffer the same thing?

Keloid scars???
You can go to a doctor, or dermatologist, and get cortisone injection (into the scar), and it will help reduce the swelling or puffyness and it also helps to tone down the pigmentation. I don't think you can make them completely disappear, but they certainly won't be as noticable after the shot.

As far as passing it on to your daughter, I dunno, my son does have it, but my daughter doesn't! It goes to show us that we can't control nature. lol!
Reply:Thanks, I hope you find relief! Report It

Reply:Try using the product called Mederma.
Reply:Nothing you can do, that's just how your skin heals. My sister has the same problem.
Reply:You can't make sure you daughters don't get it. Many blacks and some Europeans from specific areas are more likely to get keloid scars. Try using a lubricant like cocoa butter or mineral oil to provide scar massage to them. Use your thumb and press down to apply pressure in a circular motion along the length of the scar. This will help re-align the collagen fibers to make a flatter scar. Some creams are available to fade them a bit if they're dark.
Reply:Not much you can do to prevent them, and most doctors are hesitant to try to remove them because they are likely to recur.

See a dermatologist/plastic surgeon for the best advice for your specific case.

Surgically Removing a Keloid?

Has anybody ever gotten a Keloid surgically removed by a plastic surgeon?? I went to my general doctor today and he said it is definitley a Keloid and he said a plastic surgeon would remove it then inject steroids about 6 times... If anyone has gotten this done, what was your outcome/experience?? also, around how much does it cost???

i'm trying to decide it if i want to get it done or not... i know that it can come back quiet larger than normal- that's my only negative reason not to get it done

HELP

Surgically Removing a Keloid?
Keloids are smooth overgrowths of fibroblastic tissue that arise in an area of injury (eg, surgical scars, truncal acne) or, occasionally, spontaneously.

Treatment is often ineffective. Monthly corticosteroid injections (eg, triamcinolone acetonide 5 to 40 mg/mL) into the base of the lesion sometimes flatten the keloid. Surgical or laser excision may debulk lesions, but they often recur. Excision is more successful if preceded and followed by a series of intralesional corticosteroid injections. Gel sheeting (applying a soft, semiocclusive dressing made of cross-linked polymethylsiloxane polymer, or silicone) or pressure garments are other adjuncts to prevent recurrence.

I have a keloid cyst,CAN ANYBODY HELP ME/nose piercing problem/?

Well,hi!I went to a specialist in ears,nose/you know a doctor/ and found out i have a keloid cyst in my nose, caused by my 1 month nose piercing.See,i have a swollen bud-like skin tissue in my nose around my inside piercing opening-not red,not painful,no pus,but has like''eaten''my labret's stick. And it could grow and then need of operation. If i get sick, even just a simple flue, this could infect my piercing, when pus going to my brain, could cause sinosit, psycological complications, even death.Altogether with this infections and pus complications, they will annoy the cyst and it could get bigger,so it make it difficult to breath, and operation will be a must. I have already used gentamicin,baneocin,diprogenta-didn't help. And now this doctor prescribed me Oxycort spray to spray it trying approching in my piercing holes, and keep using baneocin on the swollen keloid cyst iitself.Do you think all this antibiotics could make the cyst go away.I doubt it.ANYONE to help me,i realy want my nostril

I have a keloid cyst,CAN ANYBODY HELP ME/nose piercing problem/?
