Strictly for tattoo experts only..Can keloid skin have tattoos?

My skin tends to develop keloid. A condition whereby once there is a deep open wound or deep cut, the wound won't heal nicely and smooth but tends to have excessive collagen build up. Can i still have a tattoo done?

most wont do tattoos if you have that problem. due to it wont heal right and the tatt would look bad.
Reply:Although I'm not a tattoo expert, I also have keloid prone skin. My tattoist has tattooed over an old keloid scar; he said this was a tricky job as if he treated the area like normal skin the ink would bleed into surrounding areas quite badly. I have noticed that my tattoos tend to look different from my friend's as they are slightly raised - although we all quite like the effect as they stand out more. The only problems I have had involve colour loss in the raised areas, but this isn't so bad as my artist offers free touch ups. I would say to make sure you find a really good artist who has experience with keloiding before as it is a little more complicated and will possibly require a few extra visits thoughout the years. Hope this helps.
Reply:I am prone to keloid scars too (and I am a white female - I am told this is unusual). I also lived with a tattoo artist for 2 years.

I have a keloid from a burn, a bunch from chickenpox, one from skinning my knee, my c-section and gallbladder surgery but NONE from my 9 tattoos. If the tattoo is done well, the needle won't go deep enough to cause scarring of any kind. Talk to your tattoo artist, tell him/her about your concerns listen to their recommendations and follow care instructions carefully. Good luck and have fun!
Reply:yes but it is not the same as a normal tattoo.it is a little harder to do and some tat artiest wont do people with that problem.and sometimes will cost more because of the extra work.
