Do I need to have surgery to remove a keloid from my earlobe???

hi, i got a keloid a few years ago from a piercing...i'm assuming the earrigns i had on were cheap and infected my ear. anyhow, i want the keloid gone so that I can wear earrings in both of my ears again.

does it have to be surgically removed??

OMG small world. I had this done! I had a pea sized hard little ball of scar and it just kept growing! I did have to have it surgically removed. It was cool. They had me awake but so numb I felt NOTHING. It was quick too. Recovery is a pain as you wear a bandaid on your ear for a week. HOWEVER they remove the whole piercing. They have to or else it will grow again. When they are done there is no hole left. They literally cut the piercing and scar right out of your ear. It is not wise to get it pierced again as there is a high chance your body will make a keloid scar again...Pain in the..ear. I have 3 piercings on one ear and 2 on my other. I wear a tiny diamond stud on my remaining 3rd piercing, it looks extra cute.
Reply:Yes, they can be removed but they may just come back again. Its not the cheap earrings its your blood.See your family doctor.
Reply:The same thing happened to me

I went to the doctor and they referred me a plastic surgeon

The doctor gave me a shot in the keloid once a month for 4 months to shrink it (I think it depends on the size of the keloid)

by then it was really small and he just cut a small triangle shaped part of my ear off (where it was pierced)

I was sooo worried that my ear would look smaller but you I could barely notice!
