I have a quesiton about an Ear Keloid!?

I had a piercing in my ear for about a year and it was fine (upper ear cartilage)...a little later I ripped it on a pillow while I was sleeping, (It ripped the skin but didn't rip the ring out) it didnt come to me that I may need to take it out and let it heal because I thought it would heal fine on its own...

Anyway now I have a large scar tissue lump on the front and back of my ear around (or through I guess) where it was pierced and I have been told its called a keloid

Ive did research on it but it's unsure research...

Ive seen 3 surgeons in my state that said they cannot help me and I have been referred to a plastics guy (plastic surgeon)

I will more than likely have to have reconstructive surgery to fix my ear...I'm still young and I'm getting married next year and Ive never had any surgery before so I'm really scared...

my question is has anyone ever went through a surgery for an upper ear keloid? and can you please give me some insight information on it?

Thanks!

I've never had a keliod, but I'll do my best.

Keliods are the result of irregular healing of wounds. The body lays down too much collagen and before you know it, you have what is now on your ear.

I've never heard of it being present after a tattoo, but i guess it could be possible since tattoo needles are traumatizing the skin. Unfortunately, it is mostly genetic to get keliods scars, so if this has happened to you, it is possible future scars will heal this way as well. Plastic surgery is the only way to go here, unfortunately.

I won't advise you on the tattoo, that is your choice. But most likely you won't get a keliod from getting the ink.

congrats on getting married!
